The Shenzhen Metro Line 5 Project adopted a combination of container houses and KZ houses to establish a modern modular project department for construction management and daily site operations. The modular building system was designed to provide practical working and living facilities while meeting the fast-paced requirements of urban rail transit construction.
Container houses were used to create flexible office spaces, management rooms, and staff service areas, while KZ houses provided larger-span spaces suitable for conference rooms, dining facilities, training rooms, or other shared functional areas. The combination of these two building systems allowed the project department to be planned efficiently according to the construction schedule and site conditions.
Factory-prefabricated components enabled quick transportation and installation, helping reduce on-site construction work compared with conventional temporary buildings. After the construction phase is completed, the modular buildings can be dismantled, relocated, and reused on future engineering projects, improving resource efficiency and reducing temporary construction waste.
