Mining Camp for CMOC KFM & TFM Copper-Cobalt Mining Project, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The TFM & KFM copper-cobalt mine complex, invested and operated by CMOC Group Limited in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), ranks among the world’s top deposits with ultra-high ore grade and massive reserves, covering a mining area exceeding 1,500 square kilometers. With a total investment of USD 2.51 billion, the TFM mixed ore expansion project is a landmark overseas mineral development project for CMOC. It is projected to produce an average of 200,000 tons of new copper and 17,000 tons of new cobalt annually. CMOC indirectly holds an 80% equity stake in TFM copper-cobalt mine. A brand-new cobalt production line launched in 2023 doubled local cobalt output, with the DRC cobalt output reaching 34,000 tons that year. As global demand for new energy metals surges, cobalt maintains strong market growth momentum.

Remote African mining sites face challenges including backward local construction capacity, long ocean transportation cycles and harsh tropical climate. GS Housing was honored to reach a cooperation agreement with CMOC to deliver a full set of movable prefab flat packed container housing plus steel structure supporting facilities for the KFM & TFM mine construction camp. All products have been fully delivered and are under smooth on-site installation. Our on-site management team maintained harmonious communication with CMOC staff and local residents throughout the overseas project execution.

Over 90% of wall, floor, electrical and interior decoration works are pre-finished in GS Housing’s factory workshops. Local workers can complete splicing installation with basic hand tools, without relying on scarce large construction machinery and skilled local construction teams in the DRC. It greatly shortens camp put-into-use time and matches fast mine expansion schedules.

3. Durable Structure Adapted to Tropical African Climate

The galvanized steel frame and anti-corrosion powder coating resist tropical high temperature, heavy rainfall and dust erosion common at African mining zones. The wall core adopts thick thermal insulation materials to isolate sweltering outdoor heat, creating livable indoor environments for mine staff all year round. All modular units are Class A fireproof, meeting strict safety standards for remote mining camps.

4. Complete & Flexible Functional Layout

The 1100 sets of containers can be freely combined to form independent office blocks, multi-row staff dormitories, centralized canteens, material storage rooms and activity areas. Matched with 800㎡ steel structure buildings, the whole camp forms a self-contained closed working & living community, fully satisfying long-term accommodation and office demands for thousands of mine technicians, managers and frontline workers.

5. Reusable & Eco-Friendly for Multi-Phase Mining Construction

After the completion of Phase I KFM and TFM expansion, all flat pack containers and steel structures can be fully disassembled, flat-packed and transported to new mining zones for repeated use, eliminating massive permanent construction waste and cutting long-term temporary construction investment for mining enterprises.
