Modular Interim Housing Project in California

GS Housing supplied container-based modular housing units for the Sendero Interim Housing Community in Soledad, California. The project provided a fast-deploy temporary housing solution for people transitioning from homelessness to more stable living conditions.

The modular interim housing project was developed to replace a long-standing encampment near the Salinas River and create a safer, cleaner and more organized temporary housing community.

For this project, GS Housing provided modular housing units and supported international logistics to help ensure on-time delivery. The project used container-based modular construction, allowing the housing units to be produced efficiently and installed quickly on site.

The project included 14 containerized housing units with a maximum capacity of 16 residents. The temporary housing community was designed to provide basic living privacy, dignity and safety while supporting future transition to permanent housing.

• Community and support spaces
• Case management service areas

Compared with traditional construction, modular interim housing offers faster delivery and greater flexibility. The units can be prefabricated, transported to the site and assembled in a shorter time, helping cities respond more quickly to urgent housing needs.

The detachable modular units also support efficient land use and can be relocated, expanded or reused according to future project requirements.

This project shows how modular construction can support public housing programs and emergency accommodation needs. By using container-based temporary housing, the community was able to provide safer living spaces, improve site management and support long-term reintegration for residents.
