Usage: Temporary isolation hospital / COVID-19 emergency response facility / Modular quarantine accommodation / Public health emergency infrastructure

Project Background

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Hong Kong faced a rapid increase in confirmed cases and growing pressure on medical resources.

To expand emergency isolation and treatment capacity, a temporary modular hospital capable of accommodating approximately 20,000 people was planned in Hong Kong within one week.

The project required nearly 3,000 flat packed container houses to be produced, delivered, and assembled in a very short period. This created high requirements for production coordination, cross-region factory support, logistics scheduling, and on-site installation.

Emergency Delivery Arrangement

After receiving the task on the 21st, the first batch of modular houses was organized and delivered immediately.

A total of 447 sets of modular houses were delivered on the same day, including:

  • 225 sets from the Guangdong factory
  • 120 sets from the Jiangsu factory
  • 72 sets from the Tianjin factory

These modular houses arrived in Hong Kong and entered the assembly stage. The remaining 2,553 sets were scheduled for production and delivery within the following 6 days.

Flat Packed Container House Solution

1. Standardized Modular House System

The project used flat packed container houses as the main building units. The standardized modular design helped support fast production, transportation, and assembly.

2. Multi-Factory Production Coordination

Because the project required nearly 3,000 modular houses within one week, production was coordinated across multiple factories, including Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Tianjin.

This arrangement helped shorten the overall supply cycle and reduce pressure on a single production base.

3. Fast Transportation to Hong Kong

The first batch of 447 sets was delivered on the 21st and transported to Hong Kong for assembly. The delivery plan was arranged in batches to support continuous on-site installation.

4. One-Week Emergency Schedule

The project schedule required production, delivery, and installation to be completed within one week. Under this schedule, factory production, logistics, and site assembly needed to run in parallel.

5. Large-Scale Temporary Isolation Capacity

The temporary modular hospital was planned to accommodate approximately 20,000 people, providing emergency support for isolation and public health response during the outbreak.

Conclusion

The Hong Kong Temporary Isolation Modular Hospital project was an emergency modular construction project developed during the COVID-19 outbreak.

With nearly 3,000 flat packed container houses required within one week and a planned accommodation capacity of approximately 20,000 people, the project relied on standardized modular housing, multi-factory production coordination, batch delivery, and fast on-site assembly.

The first batch of 447 sets was delivered on the 21st, while the remaining 2,553 sets were arranged for production and delivery within the following 6 days. This case shows how flat packed container houses can be used for large-scale temporary isolation hospitals under urgent public health conditions.
